Before the rumours start, can I say, NO WE’RE NOT making an announcement of any imminent addition to the Tiffany family!
As I mentioned in our last blog, I was recently watching the new series of Call The Midwife with Ruth, when we heard The Byrds song ‘Turn! Turn! Turn!’. As many of you who know me well will testify, that type of show is definitely not something that I watch. I DO NOT watch medical based programmes - I have been known to pass out while watching a few minutes of Casualty! I have got slightly better as I have got older, in as much as I no longer feel faint when walking into a hospital!
So, apart from the song being another encouraging sign of confirmation for us, I was left thinking that there’s got to be something else in this that I’m not seeing, something that I don’t understand! Why was the song in Call The Midwife? If God wanted to encourage us with this song, He could have placed it in any variety of tv shows, films, radio shows etc, so why in that particular show, a show that I wouldn’t normally watch?
Roll forward a couple of weeks and I was sat this morning, reading my bible and praying that God would speak into a situation that we’re struggling with. Last night, we were asked to do something, that we weren’t sure was physically possible for us and I was praying for wisdom and clarity in what to do and to say. I got to the end of my time of reading and praying, and I still wasn’t sensing anything. As I’d got a couple of hours on my own, I made a coffee and thought I’d settle down and watch a preach on YouTube. I started searching for something to watch, looking at the preaches available from the preachers I normally listen to, but suddenly I had a name come into my mind. I searched for him and found a few talks and I just picked an interview with him, as I thought that it would be an opportunity to learn a bit more about him.
Just 5 minutes in, he made a comment about birthing, about how a rabbit has a very short pregnancy of around 30 days, where an elephant’s pregnancy is much longer (it turns out to be about 95 weeks!). He went on to say that if you’re birthing something big, it will take a long time! That’s when it struck me, Time2 is going to be bigger and more significant than we’ve been thinking, that’s why it’s taking longer! Thinking back to the tv show, I was suddenly aware that the drama of the show is that pregnancy doesn’t always go smoothly, there can be complications and dangers! We can personally relate to that from our own experience of pregnancy, where not everything happens as you’re expecting. Human pregnancy involves changes to the mother’s body, to discomfort, to strange cravings etc, so what must it be like for an elephant?
So here we are, we were expecting a short pregnancy, but we’re not birthing something that is small, we’re birthing something much bigger and that takes longer! As the song says (taken from Ecclesiastes 3), there’s a time for everything, including a time to be born! As many of you will testify, you soon forget the problems and the pain once you’re holding that new baby!
