Hide And Seek Anyone?

I was recently reminded of a discipleship training session we attended in our first month at ngm. The person leading said that we were going to spend time learning to find God in every situation we were in. So, there we were, sat poised with our notebooks and bibles ready to hear some words of wisdom. What she said next caused us to sit up and wonder if we'd heard her right!

We'd been sent into the large garden to play hide and seek like a class of primary school children! There were about 12 of us, varying in age from 17 through to us suddenly running around the garden trying to find a place to hide. Excitement was growing as we began hiding amongst the bushes and shrubs, behind the cars parked in the car park and one person was even up a tree! There was lots of giggling and shouts of encouragement and surprise as people were found one by one. We eventually got to the point where everyone had been found apart from one guy, so instead of one person doing the searching, suddenly the whole group was looking for him. After more than 10 minutes of searching without finding him, we had to shout and ask for clues. Once he'd made a noise, he was quickly tracked down to a tiny brick built store room, used as a wood shed, behind the large industrial waste bins.

So, what you're probably asking has a game of hide and seek got to do with finding God in every part of life? The lessons we learnt were that God is always there, that he's interested in every part of our lives, but that we often have to look a little harder to find him. But we were reminded how much fun we had had whilst playing hide and seek, the excitement that the seeker had experienced in the seeking. Was that shadow being cast from behind the car a person? Was that movement in the bushes due to a person moving or because of the breeze? We began to find that when we approached life with this philosophy, that we began to find and experience God in more and more situations, because we were looking expectantly!

If you can't see God in a situation, why not listen, you may find that He's calling out to you, as I know that He wants you to find Him!
