I don't know about you, but I've been challenged and encouraged by Captain Tom Moore, at the time of writing he's just passed the £27.5 million mark through undertaking a daily walk around his garden. Not only that, but he's on course to have a number one single with Michael Ball and even though he’s only been on Twitter for a couple of weeks, he already has over 221,000 followers. His tweets are positive and not self promoting. As a result of all he’s doing, he’s in demand from the worlds media who all want to speak to him.
Captain Tom's not just sitting in his armchair, watching the world go by, but he's doing what he's able to do. His enthusiasm for life is infectious. He is grateful for what the nhs has done for him and his family, and the way he has decided to express that gratitude is through his fund raising. He never dreamt that he would raise so much money, his initial target was a more modest £1,000, but his enthusiasm and philosophy of 'tomorrow will be a better day' has captured people's hearts. So what can this remarkably active 99 year old man teach us?
Surely, I've got so much to be grateful for - particularly the fact that God sent His one and only son! That should give me all the motivation I need to take every opportunity I have to speak out about Him, or to serve others in His name. Even in this time of lockdown, am I taking every opportunity I have? Am I known by friends and family for my positive outlook on life, as the person who always has a word of thanks and encouragement for others?
Thanks for the challenge Captain Tom.
