Love Your Pastor

Yesterday we had the 2nd evening that we as a nation were encouraged to go outside and clap all those who are working for the benefit of us all, whether in the nhs, care workers, delivery drivers and all the other key workers in society. It was so nice to be able to do something tangible and to also have the opportunity to say Hi to the neighbours and to wave to people down the street.

It’s also interesting to note that the tv news, though dominated by the numbers of deaths due to corona virus both in the UK and around the world, are all now showing “good news” stories. They’re doing their best to inform us, but also to show that there is hope and that we can all do something to make others life’s better at this time.

I was still thinking about the #clapforkeyworkers, while scrolling through Facebook last night. As I did, I was struck by the number of posts I was seeing from pastors, vicars and other church leaders, who were all posting words of encouragement, links to daily online devotionals, updates about food bank operations and updates about their forthcoming online services. It’s an exciting time for the church at large, but a time of real change, we can no longer operate as we have in the past. Our leaders are at the forefront of a time of great change and of great innovation, they’re trying to grasp and run with social media, zoom meetings, YouTube videos etc. But have you stopped to think about all the extra work it’s putting on them, all the extra pressures on them and their families? We’re looking for them to lead us, to encourage us, to build us up, to make sense of this scary time, but when was the last time I said thank you, either in a call, a text, an email?

We wanted to set up Time2 to be a place of rest and relaxation for church leaders and we know that there will be many in need of that whenever this pandemic comes to an end, but in the meantime, we want to recognise the amazing work out church leaders are doing. As a first step, why not tag your church leaders in this post and just say thank you!
